These reader profiles have helped me a lot because it allows me to see what the people who will be reading my magazine are interested in, this in turn will allow me to focus the content of my magazine so that it appeals to my target audience in the best way possible.

Inspirational Magazine Cover: 247

247 Is an inspiration to me as it is a popular regional music magazine in the South East of England and Wales, although it covers more genres than the ones that will feature in my magazine it still uses a very dark base colour. The masthead colour changes by the issue depending on what other colours the magazine has in use.

However 247's cover has a lot less information on it in comparison to national magazines, it does not feature as many cover lines detailing stories inside of the magazine or promotions such as free poster. The layout is a lot more simplistic than a lot of the national magazines, there is a lot more blank space. However they make good use of the cover lines that they do use to bring in their audience by making them interesting and this will be good for me to look at when creating my front cover rather than cramming it will a lot of less detailed adverts.

Inspirational Magazine Cover: NME

NME Has a very distinctive style and is inspirational to me because they have been around for decades and not much has changed, this shows that what they are doing is right. Their masthead is very strong when you look at it because of the way they use the three colours to make the font look 3D and the red stand out more. Also as shown in the Paramore feature above they can use unconventional colours for this kind of magazine and it still looks good, pink is a very unusual color to see in the rock magazine as their main target audience is male. The font colour also links to the lipstick the singer is wearing which is effective at drawing in the readers.

Inspirational Magazine Covers: Rock Sound

I like rock sound as an inspiration because they feature a lot of bands and the main images on the cover, whereas kerrang and other magazine usually feature the singer on the cover and nobody else, I feel that this makes the magazine more enticing to the audience as you do not always know the bands that are on the cover and only seeing the main singer does not give you an idea of who they are. So I think using a full band image on the cover would be a good idea, also the use of white red and yellow for the text is good because only the main band name is in yellow in a larger font which makes it a lot more noticeable and then once the audience is closer they can see the other band names which are listed down the left hand third of the page.

Inspiration for Fonts

I like the Kerrang! font because it is simple and looks good, the white on black creates a good contrast that stands out, also making it appear brighter so when it is on the shelf it is more eye catching.

The Q font is a simple and elegant 'Q' on a red background, Q has a higher class audience so this is more appealing than having a block font or a cracked font. Also using the white on red makes it more colourful than the black background and this will also appeal to their target audience more specifically.

NME's font stands out to me because it has different layers to it and also uses the same colour scheme that I am going to use, using the black and white outline around the red letters really makes it contrast and stand out. I also like it because it uses such a simple font but the way it is designed means that it still looks very good and attracts readers.

Inspirational Magazine Cover: Kerrang!

Kerrang! is an inspirational magazine to me because I have been reading it for years and it always has appealing front covers and things that make you want to buy the magazine and read all of the articles in it. Also I like the colour use on the front covers as they adjust it according to what other colours are in use as shown in the green day issue above they use the grey background with the light emerging from behind and then use the white and green as text and backgrounds. This creates an effect that looks like he is on stage and the text colours still stand out.
